How does government affect me?
Computer Lab

It may be hard for you to imagine school without computers, but your parents and relatives probably can!

It used to be that computers were just used to type papers (word processing) and store information in the school, but now they're used for much more.

The federal government thinks computers are such an important learning tool that they're giving school districts special money to purchase computers and hook computers to the Internet. Your state and local governments pitch in a lot of money, too.

The federal government wants every classroom in every school in the United States to be connected to the Internet. How close is your school to this goal? Check around and see which of the following statements is true for your school.
  • My school has a computer wired to the Internet in every classroom.
  • My school has about half its classrooms wired to the Internet.
  • My school has Internet access in a computer lab or library.
